Since 1892, on this very street —
Koshigaya-juku was the third post town from Edo's Nihonbashi along the Nikko Kaido. Tea houses and merchant shops lined the road, and the sweets served there became a specialty travelers looked forward to.
In the Meiji era, as white sugar became widely available, sweets grew a little closer to everyday life. It was then that Okano Seikaten first opened its doors on this very street.
For over 130 years our approach has never changed: made by hand, without preservatives.
We craft wagashi that reflects the seasons, with the same care as the very first day.
